Lacquer on wood
Vietnam, 1985
The lacquer was used in the applied arts of East Asia thousands years ago. However, only in the 30-ties of 20th century a group of students from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine in Hanoi, under direction of Dinh Van Thanh, elaborated a method of painting with lacquer on the wooden board. Since then the lacquer painting became one of national arts of Vietnam.
