SUKUNDA BATTI LAMP

Cast bronze.
Nepal, 18th-19th cent.
The lamp in the form of a jug for an oil with a small bowl, wick and bucket was used during the Hindu ceremony called arati. It is decorated by images of Durga Mahishamardini goddess, Krishna, serpentine deity Naga Kanja as well as figures of nine-heads cobra, frog and an elephant.
