WOMAN'S ROBE

Silk satin, satin stitch with silk threads.
Northern China, Qing dynasty, early 20th cent.
In a small but diversified collection of Chinese garments some women's clothes from the second half of 19th cent. and beginning of 20th cent. are distinguished by their quality. The black robe embroidered with lotus flowers and pheasants was brought to Poland from Manchuria in 1906 as a souvenir of the Russian-Japanese war.
