The Asia and Pacific Museum's Chinese collection comprises nearly 1000 objects, however it don't represents completely the rich artistic tradition of that country. The most important parts of this collection are ceramics made for export to the South-East Asia (12th-19th centuries), silverware (19th cent.) destined for the European market, jewellery decorated with kingfisher feathers, furniture and clothes from the period of the late Empire and the Republic, folk theatre puppets and papercuts. Sculpture is mainly represented by the Buddhist images. Among them the oldest are the stone bodhisattva head dated 6th-7th centuries and earthenware head of the heavenly guardian from the 10th century.
