Painted ceramics in Central Asia have great traditions. Architectural decorations of glazed tiles belong to the most outstanding pieces of art in the Islam. Names of most ancient craftsmen remain unknown. After World War II when Soviet authorities officially promoted some branches of folk culture, they began to underline the individual and artistic value of the craftsmen works. The Asia and Pacific Museum in Warsaw owns a large collection of such ceramics from former Central Asian Soviet republics, mostly of traditional form and ornamentation.
