SIN MI - WOMAN'S SKIRT

Silk, cotton, metal thread; weft ikat, supplementary weft.
Laos, Xiengkhouang province, end of the 20th century.
Traditional textiles from Laos are characterized by richness of weaving techniques and decorative motifs. Silk ikat skirt is finished off with cotton panel (tin chok) decorated with supplementary weft. The decoration on this part of skirt shows the pattern of mythical water serpents - nagas, and flowing river which is typical for Nam Mat valley.
